How to Clean and Care for Handmade Silver Jewellery

Pure Silver Jewellery

Stirling Silver and Rough-Cut Quartz Necklaces
Use a silver polishing cloth to clean slightly tarnished silver jewellery. You can grab an excellent silver polishing cloth in most supermarkets and hardware stores. More tarnished silver accessories can be cleaned with silver polishing cream.

To avoid removing the oxide from a silver product, the polishing cream should be applied moderately. Apply the cream with a soft cloth and clean the silver jewellery.

To prevent the cream from causing stains on clothing, rub the cream off and wash the jewellery with warm water and very mild detergent.

Silver Chain can also be cleaned as above.

Note: When cleaning a piece of silver jewellery, avoid rubbing any precious stones near or around it.

**We do not recommend silver dips **

Handmade Silver-Plated Jewellery

Plated-metals are best cleaned with warm soapy water then polished with a polishing cloth.

Handmade Silver-Plated Jewellery finishes are made by electroplating a thin coating of silver over a base metal (usually copper, brass, iron, zinc or nickel). This process creates a finish that looks great, but isn’t as durable as its pure silver cousin. Therefore, it’s important to take care when cleaning silver-plated jewellery so you don’t remove this plated coating.

Do not use any harsh chemical cleansers or abrasive cleansers on your silver-plated jewellery as these cleansers may cause the plating to chip or wear off.

Never soak silver-plated jewellery for extended periods of time; doing so may weaken the electroplating finish.

Silver-plated jewellery retains its shine for longer if kept in a sealed plastic bag when not in use.
